If you've seen my top 10 list for 2011 you know that The Coathangers Larceny & Old Lace was my favorite album this year (if you haven't seen it, keep scrolling). So, when I asked them to come play an in-store & they agreed I was over the moon. It was a free day show & it was awesome, just ask my dad because even he came to it. (Thursday June 23rd)

Angels of Darkness, Demons of Light II

Southern Lord will be putting out part two of Angels of Darkness, Demons of Light from Earth in February. This album also features the artwork of one of my most favorite artists, Stacey Rozich (who apparently has set up an etsy shop but last I checked, it was empty).

Sobriety

Let's talk about drinking, ok? Maybe you already know this or maybe you don't, but I am an alcoholic. Yup, total booze hound. I can't drink "socially" or "have just one". When I drink, I drink in excess. I drink until I am black out drunk & then I still drink & drink & drink. But here's the thing, I don't do it anymore. Yup, total recovering booze hound. I'm sober.

This is my story.

Two Summers ago I was recently divorced & really into playing trivia at my local dive bar. But really, I was just super into drinking at my local dive bar. Drinking & making out with random scumbags; the trivia was just an added bonus. So anyway, I went to the bar on a Tuesday night to play trivia & I started drinking. I spent a bunch of money & got really drunk. It was nothing out of the ordinary, I did that every night. But this night I got black out drunk & didn't bother finding a place to sleep, instead I walked across the street & waited for the bus out of town. What happens next is still foggy. I'm not sure at what point I passed out in the gutter, but I did. I passed out on the side of the road in my postcard perfect town & I woke up in jail, handcuffed to a wall. I don't know what happened in between that. But apparently it involved a lot of cops, handcuffs & a belligerent drunk girl.

I woke up in a tiny holding cell to find my younger sister & my mother there to pick me up, totally ashamed & embarrassed, wishing they were anywhere but there. It was somewhere around three am & I was still loaded. I couldn't walk. I couldn't even stand up. I don't remember what my blood alcohol was but I was charged with public drunkenness for being a danger to myself & others. I had hit rock fucking bottom but like I said, I was still drunk so I didn't yet realize it. It wasn't until the next morning when I woke up & sobered up that I realized just how far I had fallen. It didn't matter that months leading up to this I had alienated friends & lost jobs because of my drinking. It didn't matter that I had been kicked out of my apartment for falling three months behind on rent because every cent I made went to whiskey. It didn't matter that my standards when it came to men were pretty much totally non-existent. None of that even registered. But that morning, two Summers ago I woke up in the spare room of my Mother's house with bruised wrists & a vague memory of a holding cell & I knew something had to change.

I had to get sober.

So I did. I quit drinking. I just stopped. The first couple days I was really sick. I felt scared & confused. I couldn't sleep. All I did was think about how deciding to quit drinking was a huge mistake & I didn't really have a problem, just a really bad night. I had severe shakes but I told myself that wasn't withdrawal, that was because I hadn't eaten in a few days. It was probably both. I couldn't eat without barfing. My body was pissed & I was scared. I decided I had to drink some whiskey or else I would probably die. The only problem was, I had told my sisters & my mother that I was done with the booze & I was not going to let them see me fail so easily. My stupid fucking ego was forcing me to be sober & I was pissed.

521 days later I still haven't had a drink.

Getting sober meant changing pretty much every aspect of my life. I lost a bunch of friends because I couldn't go to the bar anymore & they weren't interested in doing much else. I also had to work to repair the friendships that mattered to me. It was humbling to say "hey listen, I fucked up. a lot, for a long time but I love you & I want you in my life, if you'll have me." I also had to prove to my coworkers & my boss that I was worthy of keeping my job. That I wouldn't show up hungover anymore, having to run to the bathroom to vomit a few times before being able to really do anything, always stinking of booze & cigarettes & usually wearing the same clothes for days at a time. I also had to begin to repair a reputation in my tiny town, a reputation that was pretty awful. I had become an embarrassment & it would take some time to fix that.

Sobriety is a motherfucker.

Living sober is the hardest thing I have ever done. It is scary & lonely & I think about drinking all the time. But it is also the most rewarding thing ever. Since I quit drinking I enrolled in community college & I'm almost finished my first semester. I'm in college. Holy shit! I have the time & energy to go to school, write papers, do homework. Two Summers ago I didn't even have time to take a shower or call my father. The few friends I have are supportive & beautiful, sharing with me life events that don't involve sitting belly-up to a bar. I appreciate the second chances I have received. I don't know if I actually deserved those second (& sometimes third, fourth, etc) chances. I appreciate the new friendships I have been lucky enough to gain since getting sober, feeling really good that those friends didn't know "drunk taryn" but never hiding her from them. I am very honest about my addiction.

There is a very strong sober community within punk rock & I feel undeserving at times to be a part of it. At the same time though, you guys... I'm afraid that one day I'll lose this fight & find myself drinking again. I am human & I don't always know if I'm strong enough to do this. But the saying "one day at a time" exists for a reason & it's not bullshit. Sometimes though, I have to take it one hour at a time. For a long time, my coping mechanism was booze. My escape was being drunk. I have spent these last however many months dealing with my shit, fessing up to the fact that I have a lot of stuff I need to deal with & that drowning myself in whiskey won't help, it won't fix me. I may never be fixed but I will slowly become better at being ok with me, broken or not.

My Favorite Bearded Dude

That last post might have been a bit of a downer but whatever, sexism isn't fun. Ya know what is fun though? Hanging out with my Poppop Jack! This dude is bananas & I adore him. I've realized that to make him laugh a big belly laugh all I have to do is re-tell his stories as if they are my own. For example, I was telling him how the other day we were down at 2nd & Gerard just hanging out, getting into trouble. Anyway, so we get on the trolley and pants "Dago" right there in front of all the old ladies & push him right off the trolley into the street! That totally happened, except it was like sixty years ago. Poppop couldn't stop laughing & when he finally did he yelled into the kitchen "Nance, come listen to what Taryn just said". So now, not only does he tell the same stories over & over but so do I.

My Vagina & I are so Pissed!

Back when I used Livejournal I would update that thing multiple times a day but now that I have this, I also have Twitter & Facebook so it's like, how much of me does the internet need? (don't answer that, just keep reading). The truth is, the internet could probably do with a lot less of me, maybe we all could but I've never been one to stay quiet for too long. So this post is going to be a bunch of complaining because I've been up for hours & I have had a lot of coffee. (feel free to stop reading)

Booking shows as a female promoter feels like a losing battle.

What does this mean? It means, for some reason the fact that I'm a broad means dudes in bands don't take me seriously. It means that when they show up to the record store to play a show, even though they have been communicating with me the entire time leading up to that very moment, they do not approach me but instead make a bee-line for my boss Blair, a dude. Maybe I'm just being uppity? Maybe they just walk directly to whomever they see first? Maybe. But probably not. Recently we had a bunch of bands play & the drummer of one band asked me a question. I gave him an answer. It was not the answer they wanted & the dude says to me (& I quote) "I'll just go ask Blair".

Yo, for real. This happened. My vagina & I were pissed.

I guess it wouldn't be such a big deal if this was like, the nineteen fifties & that was my only example of blatant sexism I had experienced during the last year of booking shows (it's the only example I'm throwing out here because really, I don't want to complain all day. I love booking shows. I love my record store & I'm not perfect). Anyway, it's almost 2012 & I've been in the "scene" longer than you. You want to see my credentials? How about you just stop disrespecting women in general & get with the program? Your sexism is so subtle, maybe you don't even notice it? But I do because I deal with it constantly. Heck, I'm an angry old riot grrrl, sure. But I'm also a pretty smart lady who is really stoked on your band, worked pretty hard to get this show together & you're just ruining it by being some sort of ignorant jerk. Misogyny is so totally over, so do me a favor ok? When you get to the record store & you're ready to rock just don't be a jerk. Instead be aware of the things you do & say when dealing with women because it'll make my vagina happy & your momma proud.

I got a Burdens tshirt recently & it was way too big for me so after checking out some tutorials on youtube I decided on a no-sew reconstruction to make it more fitting. I love it, even if tshirt reconstruction is so five years ago.

The Julie Ruin

My friends don't understand why I never got into Le Tigre since I was always a big Bikini Kill fan (I have the singles record player tattoo'ed on my arm!) but they are totally different bands & no matter how many "omg, whatevs" I get, I just can't get into Le Tigre. However, Kathleen Hanna's solo project, Julie Ruin was a whole other story! I was working my first record store job (Wax Trax in Denver) right after high school when this came out (1998) & I was immediately in love. So when I heard (late, I know) that Kathleen would be putting out a new record, with a full band (including Kathi Wilcox of BK) under the name The Julie Ruin I was over the moon excited!

Record Store Day 2011

Record Store Day this year was even bigger & better than previous years! Things were crazy hectic & overwhelming at Siren Records the weeks leading up to the big day (ie: christmas for record collectors) but we made it through! Last year there was a Hole 10" that I HAD to have. This year the one record I needed was the new Earth record (printed on green vinyl, pressing of 1,500) & I was able to snag one!

Our good friend John Berry made vegan donuts for customers & we had fresh brewed coffee all day (& into the night which made the punks happy who came to see Richmond's Landmines play with Funeral Flowers & Sinatrah). Plus, I got to see my girl DJ DTC which is always a lovely surprise!

I've seen the Bouncing Souls about a million times & each time, it's perfect. They have been doing the punk rock thing long enough to do it impeccably. So, the other night when my good friend Jesse & I drove out to Asbury Park to see them play with my friend Danny's band Dirty Tactics as well as The Menzingers & Strike Anywhere at the Stone Pony I was pleasantly surprised to find out they were playing two albums from start to finish, rather than just crowd favorites. Since we went night 2 of Home for the Holidays we got to hear Self-Titled & Hopeless Romantic. I'm not gonna lie, I could do without the bro favorite "Ole" but whatever, the dudes without shirts on who were moshing it up, loved it (same with "East Coast, Fuck You"). My favorite song of the night was defiantly "Hopeless Romantic".

two thousand & ten

January 22nd I was served divorce papers & in March of 2010 my divorce was finalized. I had been separated for almost two years from Josh & I had spent most of that time drunk, avoiding feelings & ignoring what had happened. It's hard, after eleven years with someone to live without them. I had no idea how to take care of myself, to not be in a partnership & even though he & I still communicated, it was nowhere near the same & I was lost. In June of 2010 I was arrested for public drunkenness after getting black out drunk & passing out on the side of the road, waiting for a bus. Not my finest moment but waking up in a holding cell, handcuffed to a wall with no memory of the previous hours was exactly the wake-up call I needed to get sober & get my shit together. I spent the next six months in full self-reflection mode & during that time I met a really rad dude. It's funny, I try not to spend too much energy on dudes but yet, that's exactly what I do. The thing about this one though is that he was probably the best boyfriend I have ever had in my entire life... except, he wasn't my boyfriend at all & this is where I learned to be just friends with a boy.

In April my Dad moved back to Pennsylvania from California & my support system was whole again. Also, in April Hole put out their first record in like 12 years & I finally had a soundtrack to how I was feeling.

I spent a lot of time at Siren Records this year, after selling MY MY after seven years of it being my entire life. I passed the crafty torch to Momo who I adore to pieces & have since I was just a teenager. I can say with full certainty that she is the only person I trust to take what I started & turn it into something even more amazing... she already has. Working at Siren is the best thing that has ever happened to me (ya know, next to becoming an aunt). I have made some of the best friends I have ever had. I get to spend my days listening to music & being with people who love me so honestly & support me, with my flaws & all. I have so much love for my co-workers, it's probably unhealthy & it's not just them, it's the extended Siren family too (like Anna Taylor who I stole some of these photos from)! Unfortunately, I also lost a couple friends this year which I suppose, happens. I just wish they weren't people who meant the world to me, one especially.

I got to see some of my favorite bands this year including Hole (only my 2nd time), Murder City Devils, Screeching Weasel, Circa Survive, Sinatrah, The Feverfew, Rosetta, Elder & Ladder Devils. I met long-time zine friends at the Philly Zine Fest including Chris, Amy & Bree. I also finally got my "get rad" tattoo I had been talking about forever as well as a Bikini Kill tattoo & a Murder City Devils tattoo (because I really am that big of a music nerd). I put out issue six of Sub Rosa & I think it might be the best zine I have ever made. I witnessed the passing of the Anti-discrimination Ordinance in Doylestown & was never prouder to be a part of something so awesome. I was on the cover of Alternative Press with Circa Survive & I also remembered to appreciate the small things like sitting in Reina's backyard watching her daughter dance around & catch lightning bugs on a warm Summer night. I witnessed my niece Annabelle achieve the level of brown belt in Kenpo Karate. Sadly, 2010 is also the year JD Salinger died before I was ever able to meet him. I turned 32 in November & went roller skating with my friends & on Christmas Eve I found out I will become an aunt again... obviously ending the year totally thrilled & excited for 2011.

I know what you're thinking, this list is all over the place. But the thing is, that's just the way I like it. Obviously, the Hole record I had been waiting sooo many years for I was nervous I wouldn't like it (I wasn't a huge fan of Celebrity Skin) but after playing it for a solid 8 hours at work, it was pretty obvious it was amazing. Philly has been putting out great music forever, but this year it's been insane! Circa Survive, Sinatrah & Rosetta all put out phenomenal records & I was lucky enough to see them all live (a few times) including in-stores by each band at Siren Records!

I was surprised when I was checking out other lists that Warpaint only appeared on one & that was Brian's over on punknews.org. That record is seriously under-rated. Both "Baby" & "Majesty" are beautiful, dark songs that often times, make me feel like my heart is on the verge of breaking. The Fake Problems record is poppy & fun but with equally heart breaking lyrics, just the way I like my punk rock. I was supposed to see them play tonight with Bouncing Souls at the Stone Pony for Home for the Holidays but sadly the snow ruined that plan.

Swedish singer Kristian Matsson aka The Tallest Man on Earth put out The Wild Hunt this year followed by an EP called Sometimes the Blues is Just a Passing Bird. The LP was beautiful, his voice reminiscent of Bob Dylan however I was disappointed in the EP, even after giving it a few tries. Check out this in studio performance at NPR of Kristian Matsson.

Friday night we went to see The Murder City Devils at the TLA (which was at one time, a single screen movie theatre & now only has a capacity of 810 people) on South Street in Philly. It was by far, the best show I have ever seen in all my 31 years of life. This east coast tour is the first time MCD have been back since 2001 so it was awesome to be able to see them. Before the show we hit Tattooed Moms for drinks with Kyle & Jen of the Southeastern PA chapter of Apron Activists. Afterwards it was snowball fights & fondue!

In other rock n' roll news... Thanks to my good friend Sarah from Sarahspy.com I now know about Flowers & Cream, Thurston Moore's (of Sonic Youth, duh) new blog.

My favorite record of 2009 was "Farm" from Dinosaur Jr. I seriously can not get enough of it. I listen to it all day at work & then play the entire thing on my local dive bar's jukebox after I get done work. It's just THAT good. I've unofficially made it the soundtrack to my life. It's pretty convenient when my ex-boyfriend is at the bar & I put on "Over It". Passive aggressive jukebox tunes are the best.

We can't get enough of the Canadian band, Land of Talk over here at My My. We listen to "Some Are Lakes" everyday at the store (sometimes more than once in a row... ok, sometimes over & over again). Elizabeth Powell's voice is enchanting & just flutters around the shop so beautifully. You should jump on over to Saddle Creek & pick up a record!

I've also been listening to Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros on repeat. "Up and Below" is the 2009 release from Alex Ebert's (from Ima Robot) band which played their first show in 2007. With more than 10 members, this band has an amazingly big sound that I adore.

Two Thousand & Nine

I brought in 2009 at my local Moose Lodge watching my friends play music, surrounded by kids dancing & singing along. It was a night of celebration & excitement. This year I decided to go low-key & instead spent New Year's Eve watching Coraline with my 9 year old niece Annabelle. We had a sparkling cider toast at midnight & then went to sleep. It was quiet & perfect, a good way to end a very hectic year.

2009 had many ups & a few downs. I spent the first half of it working two jobs to afford my very first apartment on my own only to realize mid-Spring that I was in over my head (& maybe partying too much). I moved back home into my families open arms with the chance to get back on my feet but moving back home at 30 is not easy. I spent most of the Summer with one boy, a boy I have grown to love with my entire being. We broke up early Autumn & have been spending the months since attempting a friendship. He is so important to me that no matter how much it might make my heart ache to not be in a relationship, I refuse to let him go completely. I turned 31 this year & to celebrate my birthday I threw myself a little party at my local dive bar where I had my dj debut thanks to my good friend Bob who trusted me enough to play music for an hour to a bar full of people. In November I re-opened my retail store with my long-time friend Momo & haven't looked back since. I was able to be a part of a new book by Grace Dobush called Crafty Superstar which I am so very excited about. Working at both Starbucks & at my store is exhausting but rewarding. I have little spare time but what I do have I spend making stuff & doing thing, hanging out with some really awesome people like my dear friend Ellen & her son, Sandro. I've tried to go to as many shows as possible including seeing The Bouncing Souls & The Weakerthans this year. I am inspired by the things my friends are doing & it makes me want to do more, be more.

2010 is going to be about the music, about the art, about being happy. I'm excited about those things & looking forward to this year, never looking back.

Amber Loves Zines

For those of us with oodles of zines in our collection sometimes we feel slightly guilty about the way they are stored (crates, boxes, rubbermaids... etc.) so I always get really excited to see people doing creative things with their zine collections. Of course, it's always a great idea to donate your zines to a local zine library but if you can't part with them then maybe you should follow Amber's lead & hang them up on display!

My zines are simply on shelves but I may just nab Amber's idea & hang them up... well, at least some of my favorites.

Oh & in other zine news, Erin (of Driving Blind) opened a new distro! It's called Things You Say & pretty soon will carry my zine, Sub Rosa!

I have been waiting patiently for my copy of Grace Dobush's new book Crafty Superstar which arrived in my mailbox this week & boy was it worth the wait. It's a super handy guide to running a crafty business with lots of advice & how-to's from various crafters. I spent a few hours chatting with Grace on the phone some time ago, talking about business & crafts & the business of crafts (which is something I love talking about & geek out on often). I feel very privileged to have been included in the book.

Now that I am dj'ing I feel I have an excuse to buy new records. While poking around Ebay the other day I came across a few Hole bootlegs & asked Blair (who owns Siren Records, where MY MY is now located) if he was familiar with them. He said he was & that he might even have them. Fast forward a week or so... Blair walks into the store this morning & hands me 3 cds & says "Here are those bootlegs you were asking about". For my 31st birthday (which was on the 2nd) I invited all my friends to come listen to my dj for the very first time! It was Mischief Night & I played records for an hour or so before the Misfits cover band played (while wearing a custom-made dress by my friend Ellen, that we named "The Beetlejuice Dress"). Once I was finished my lovely friends & family surprised me with the best cake ever & sang me happy birthday! The night was full of awesomeness & I have a feeling, 31 is going to be fabulous! I don't know if it was bad timing or the most perfect coincidence that on Sunday I went to go see The Weakerthans at World Cafe Live in Philadelphia with my very recent ex. But I did & it was a beautiful show. We sat side by side at a table lit with candles & listened to the soundtrack of our relationship, sharing whiskey like we always do. It was the first time either of us had seen them live & even with matching broken hearts, we both agreed we wouldn't have wanted to be there with anyone but each other. If you get a chance, go see them... with your ex or not.

I can't sleep. This boy, my not-boyfriend, is so tall, so large that he takes up most of my bed. At first it's ok, I like being tucked up against him, his beard scratching my face as I lay wrapped in his arms but I can't move.... I'm stuck and I want to turn over, turn away. But he's still there, so tall, so large.

He smells sweet. It's a sweetness I can't place but it's mixed with booze and cigarettes, it's the kind of sweet I would bottle so I could keep it forever. As he sleeps I study his face. The curve of his jaw reminds me of my father. It feels comfortable, safe even. I take my finger and gently trace the tattoos on his chest, trying not to wake him as I continue to study the lines on his face. His almost perky nose, the wrinkles on his forehead, the bags under his eyes. They all contradict each other. This young man, my not-boyfriend, looks aged beyond his years.

Hours later he leaves and I turn over to smell the pillow his head was on in hopes that the sweetness lingers. I run my hand over the empty place in my bed and even though he just left I find myself wishing he was still there. I lay there longer than I should, ignoring my plans to go to the farmer's market. I lay there and think about him, my not-boyfriend. I wonder if I'm in the early stages of heartbreak.

This weekend was the Philly Zine Fest which was a blast! However, today is Tuesday & I think somewhere between hanging out in West Philly & right now... New York vs Portland Zine

New York vs Portland is a zine created from a collection of Polaroids taken by Soma over the past few years. In issue two Portland features polaroids from her first summer in Portland Oregon. They were taken with a Holga 120SF and Polaroid attachment using Polaroid89 Film. These photographs were also shown in Soma's solo show at the Sequential Art Gallery in Portland.

This zine is full color, and the Polaroid prints are adhered to a heavy black stock. Contains 6 color Polaroids. Measures 5 1/2" x 4 1/4".

a new place to call home

I've moved... again. Having my bed under the window in a small attic room with low, slanted ceilings is lovely, especially after living in a (windowless) basement for the last three months. The room is a clean slate, a fresh start & not to mention, the beginning of a new life. I can't wait to fill the walls with inspiration like this, this & this.

saturday night our little family attended our very first roller derby bout! it was a double header of the philly roller girls & it was AMAZING! luckily for us they skate at a place just 10 minutes from my store so it took no time to get there, get our tickets & find a killer spot in the bleachers. we decided that for the championships we're getting VIP & sitting rinkside because even though the action was awesome, we really should have spent the extra $10 to be right there in the middle of it!

like i said, it was a double header so it was the broad street butchers vs. the heavy metal hookers first. the hookers hadn't had a win yet this season but man, they totally brought it! with a super close game down the last minute we were yelling & stomping our feet & hoping the butchers would come through but guess what? they lost to the hookers who secured their first win of the season! but it didn't matter, we were smitten by the butchers & especially by roxy rockett, the raddest jammer around! during halftime annabelle was determined to find roxy so she could meet her. we finally tracked her down & annabelle introduced herself & got her picture taken. it was rad. roxy told annabelle that the little fans are her favorite!

the second bout was the hostile city honeys vs. the philthy britches. the britches were undefeated & so the honeys obviously wanted a win. but the britches are just too good. the co-captains mo pain & violet temper just schooled everyone. i forget the final score but i'm pretty sure it was a sweep which means on november 10th the britches will skate against the honeys once again, this time for the championship title!

if you live in the philly area be sure to go to the warrior cup championship double header on november 10th at the sportsplex in feasterville (get tickets here)! it will be a good time for sure! GO BUTCHERS!

Richmond Zine Fest

so, saturday morning josh & i got up at 2:30am & headed to richmond virginia for the zine fest! it was supposed to be a 4.5 hour drive but ended up taking us much longer because of my knack for taking wrong turns & josh's desire to stop & eat every few minutes! but eventually we made it & found the venue. we were greeted by a slightly stressed who pointed me in the direction of my table & was gone, like that! of course, we were able to hang out more later in the day & she is pretty much the coolest!

the event was held in 2 locations within walking distance of each other. there were lots of familiar faces & new faces i was looking forward to meeting. i went to a panel on zines where we talked about various zine related topics. at one point a dude asked what some of the riot grrrl zines were called & i totally blanked. all i could think of was ericka's power candy! there was a girl at the zine fest who asked josh if he was a zine hacker. of course, he had no idea what that meant so she went on to ask if we took people's zines & went & copied them without permission to sell! SERIOUSLY. of course, it quickly became the best new inside joke ever! we also got to hang out & go get chipotle with ! i swear josh was going to die when she told him they had chipotle in richmond. oh & thara came along with who i've never met before so that was exciting!

we decided to head back home after the zine fest rather than stay the night. i was beat & just wanted to be home. i kept having visions of my bed & it just looked too comfy. we made it to the first rest stop on 95 before we pulled over to take a nap. it was maybe 30 minutes into our trip. we slept for 2 hours & headed back on the road. we made it home a little before 2am, again making what should have been a 4.5 hour trip much longer. but we had so much fun & now i have a giant stack of zines to get me through today's shift at the farm stand. plus, tomorrow is coming to visit the farm! i'm psyched. alex is one of my most favorite people ever so i'm looking forward to some hanging out time!

ps: expect a shop update tonight with some awesome new zine titles!! oh & i met lots more lj friendz who i want to link but i have to be at work in a few minutes so i'll edit this post laterz. trust me, i'm not forgetting you!

bust magazine, gwen stefani & me

a couple months ago i was asked by deb stoller to interview gwen stefani for the february/march issue of bust magazine. i, of course, said yes & began working on my list of questions. i traveled to new york city in december where i visited the bust offices & met the staff. later that night i met up with gwen at the ritz carlton where we talked for nearly an hour. i then spent the next week editing & editing & editing some more to meet the deaedline. i'm very proud of the finished piece (even if it is a bit different than what i turned in but hey, that's totally their choice). the whole thing was an awesome experience. working for bust, meeting & interviewing gwen stefani, learning how the process works. i'm really gald i was given this opportunity.

but now, it's your turn to get to work! the magazine is on newsstands now so please pick up a copy & enjoy! i know it is available at barnes & noble as well as borders. also, i know record stores usually carry it & indie bookstores. if you can't find it locally, let me know & i'll lend a helping hand.
